I just heard this on Radio 3:
"...the people of Orkney feel separate to the rest of teh British Isles?
"Very much. Of course, they were owned by Norway until teh 15th Century..."
As if the 15th C was just last week.

It's the same sort of thing that happens in my village. i've caught myself saying "...but of course, sixty years ago this was replaced by this, and so-and-so moved here..." and I wasn't even born!

Well, there is a tiny difference between 60 years and 6 centuries of course
I myself have very bad memory for dates and I feel that this sometimes affects my feeling for time. I accept changes very fast so in a year or so any new building, street, etc. feels "normal" - almost as if it has always been there.
And I constantly catch myself saying "yesterday this and that happened", no matter if it was a week, or month ago, or, indeed, yesterday! How weird is that!?!
May be these descendants of Norwegians you heard on the radio about have the same time-less gene like I do

I know what you mean. I have a very poor memory, so most of what I remember is very hazy. I have been known to get real life and dreams muddled, because I remember both so poorly. Consequently time can all get a little muddled!
