I had a lovely experience on Sunday. On the way back home after spending the weekend singing at Newport Cathedral, Mr Vip took me back to a castle. It's more of a fortified house that's been, in not restored to glory, restored enough to stop further decay. It was a wonderful, higgledy-piggledy place, and when we went up the tower, I had a fantastic suprise: swallows.
They were nesting in the ceilings. I got lucky on my way up, with several sat on the beams, taking a rest before heading out to get more insects (one presumes). I've never seen a swallow so close up before, with their red breasts and pointed tails... just gorgeous.

You were at Raglan, weren't you?
You should have popped by for a cuppa.

Where's Raglan? I'm fairly sure that's not the place we went to. We'd made it over the border to Shropshire by the time we stopped. I'll look it up when I get home.
One day I'll pop over for a .

One of the best things I ever did/experienced was in my mountain climbing days in Scotland. I spent many a happy hour 2000 feet up a mountain watching Golden Eagles soaring and feeding. Just a shame I never had a decent enough camera to get pics but it is an awe inspiring thing to see.
