Anyone else using this?
One thing I am noticing is that some webpages won't save to my desktop ( I get a little message from safari telling me). In the Help it says that some websites prevent you from doing this, but it seems something specific to this version of safari. Why would apple build a browser that did that? Is this part of the DRM movement?

Really? That's fascinating.
I'm using Safari 4, and I generally like it. But I haven't tried saving an web pages yet. Do you have specific URLs where this happens? I would like to look at them to see how they do that and if it's possible to get around it.
The only thing I can think of that would prevent you from saving a web page is the heavy use of "web 2.0" techniques; basically the pages don't exist so much as they are created on-the-fly using javascript. In some cases, the pages never "finish loading" so they can't be saved.

Ok, I'll post links to the next few that do that. I'll try in another browser too.

http://www.dealsonwheels.co.nz/UsedItemHome.aspx
I get a drop down message (from safari) saying:
The document "Deals on Wheels [rest of page title]" could not be saved to "Deals on Wheels [rest of page title]"
So it's like it tries to save it but then can't.
I am having a few problems with my mac though so maybe it's part of that. The previous version of safari would no longer display images in saved files, and since I started using 4 the whole system has been running crooked (slow mostly).

I can't save that page as a webarchive either, so it's nothing to do with your other problems. I can save it as plain html, but then you don't get the images and page layout. And you can "print" to a PDF file, but then you don't get the links (unless you have Acrobat Pro).
And looking at the web page, nothing jumps out at me as being the reason you can't save it.
I suspect there is some problem with the page itself - if you have your "status bar" showing, you'll see that it says "cancelled opening the page" indicating that something is causing the page to fail to load completely.

I have just saved the page as a web archive and it has worked just fine. When I close Safari and double click the file it loads with all the images on the page and live links.
Here is the address for the file - file:///Users/Username/Desktop/Deals%20on%20Wheels%20New%20Zealand%20-%20Buy%20&%20Sell%20New%20&%20Used%20Trucks%20&%20Equipment,%20Truck%20&%20Equipment%20News%20&%20Reviews.webarchive
I am using Safari 3.2.1 on an Intel Mac (2.66GHz Core 2 Duo) and OS 10.5.6.
I know that's no help but...

Well it does tell us that the problem is with Safari 4 I guess I should send them an email, given that it's beta they'll be wanting feedback?

Safari 4 just saved it as a webarchive for me. Try this as a work around, from the view menu select view source. Then close the page source window and see if it'll let you save it as a webarchive then.
Oh and the one thing about Safari 4 which is really bugging me is the loss of the stop/refresh button.

there is a stop/refresh button, they just moved it. It's now tucked *inside* the URL address box, on the far right.

That's not a button, you can re-order the buttons. Also I have a vague feeling that that was already there.

Has Apple stopped you right (control) clicking the toolbar and customising it in Safari 4 then?

Command . no longer stops a page loading unless you put the cursor in the address bar
Command R still refreshes without doing that though.

I see what you mean TB. No Stop/Refresh button option (as you might gather I have installed the Safari 4 Beta).
Perhaps we should all ask for it to be reinstated as this is a Beta version, n'est pas?
As for web archive issues kea, I have just saved my PS as a web archive and it is fully functional when I run it. It begins to look to me like it is related to your set-up? I am at a loss here (as my handle suggests - no expert...).

One of these commands might get the stop button back:
http://swedishcampground.com/safari-4-hidden-preferences
You just copy and paste the relevant command into Terminal.
But there's no guarantee they'll work with the final version of Safari 4, and there's no guarantee that they won't cause some odd, undiagnosable problem. On the other hand they are easily undone by deleting your Safari preference file - these are no different than clicking an option in the Safari preferences, it's just that these particular options don't have a button to click.

Yup it works. You need to use the two commands - DebugSafari4IncludeToolbarRedesign and DebugSafari4LoadProgressStyle- the ones that are grouped together. Then restart Safari, and finally customize the toolbar - you'll see the stop/reload as a choice that you can drag back.
But if you undo those two settings, the stop/reload button disappears again.
I didn't test the command-. issue. You should report that as a bug.

I can't download this pdf file, either as a Safari save or as a Print -> save as PDF I did manage to save it directly using key commands off a link on another site though.
