Poor Peet! Didn't you hear about the trick of using the old, unlocked Pro player with the new updated Quicktime? Even though you don't pay for the update, the player from the previous version will work fine with almost all of the new features. I think you still lose the download option in the web browser though, it's just the application that remains unlocked.

Unfortunately I always forget to store the old player in a nice safe out-of-the-way place before I upgrade. smiley - erm

d'El, the xpinstall.enabled thingy was already set to true, and when I tried installing the extension again it did the same thing. Do I need to trash something before I reinstall?

I've tried QT pro, and it did this annoying thing of converting the default opening application on a whole lot of files to QT smiley - cross Audio files mostly. Plus strange thing started happening when I was burning discs, or doing backups onto dvds - where file types would get converted. So I got rid of QT.

smiley - yikes You can't get rid of quicktime! It's pretty much built into the system. You probably got rid of Quicktime Player which is just one of the programs that uses quicktime. But a better way of fixing your problem would be to "Get Info" (command-i) on one of the files that switched to Quicktime, in the "Open With" section change it back to the program you want to use, and finally click the "change all" button.

I really don't know what to say about the Firefox extension problem. Have you tried installing another extension? The problem may be with the extension itself, not with your computer. There were a lot of video downloaders to choose from, just type "video" in the search box on the firefox add-ins site.

I think I tried that, but then each time I reopened QT it caused the same problems.

I 'got rid of' it because my mac had to go in for a repair and so I wiped the HDD and then didn't upgrade QT to pro smiley - ok
