good news is i have stuffit... can anyone i send a stufft file open it or do they have to have stuffit too?
bad news is i have been reduced to cancelling my dotmac account because, due to snafus too numerous to relate, i cannot access my account that i haha paid for. so now im waiting for them to email me with confirmation that they have cancelled it. then next week after my bank registers that cancellation i will reup with them... maybe
i am now reading and trying to learn stuffit
again... thank you!

That, of course, assumes you're sending the files to another Mac user.
If you're not sure, the safest course is to tell Stuffit to create Zip files. (But not *self-extracting* Zip files...) They can be opened by Mac users with Stuffit, and also by PC users with Winzip or equivalent; XP and Vista users even just see them as a directory they can open straight on the desktop without needing any extra unpacking software.

ahhhh ok. very good. i didnt realise that stuffit makes different types of archives.
yeah... i think most of my recipients are pc users still... sooooo... dotmac came through and fixed everything up and im all good and have already uploaded that big file to my public folder.
and so.... after some major out and abouting for exercise and back on the planeting... i will come back and learn about my stuffit... and set a password for my public folder... and then send information notices to my recipients.
theres no smiley for a steaming bowl of soup!! ...or a pile a cookies!!!!
