Now this thread is the MacOS 10.3. How do you feel about paying for it? What do you like/hate? All that stuff. I am sure it should be a hart debate which will chnage to the topic of orranges and clowns by the 300 posting.

Not got it. Can't afford it at the moment.. I've not really had any issues with 10.1.5 except printer support but then some kind person posted a hack for mine on Google groups.

Should we really be paying for a point increment?
I've only just been able to squeeze 10.2.x on my aged iBook with base memory requirements anyway so I wont bother for now...wait until I get a new machine I guess

I saw a clown juggle oranges once.
Oh right, panther - I don't mind paying for the upgrades - it keeps Apple in business, and the major upgrades are only once a year. It's not like they aren't giving us updates in between those, some of which include nifty new features.
I've got it installed now and I like it. It's still too soon to tell if it is better than 10.2 though. Some things seem much faster, some things seem a little more pokey, exposé is definitely neat. It won't run on my old Powerbook G3 Series (Wallstreet) . I would never use something like FileVault. It did require that I update my printer driver, Wacom tablet driver, and I suspect my scanner driver.
Now I can say without a doubt it is much, much better than 10.1.

At this point, my old iMac (one of the colored round ones, not the new stylish ones) is broken down to the point that:
The internal modem is busted. And it's not just the modem, it's also the part of the motherboard that the modem plugs into -- they melted into each other. Currently using a cheap, crappy external. Which crashes.
The keyboard has several missing keys.
One of the USB ports is busted, and the other works only intermittently.
Despite the fact that I just this weekend did a clean reinstall of OS 10.2, and only reloaded the barest minimum of software and backup files, it still is having considerable problems -- hanging up, crashing, etc.
Add on to this the fact that it doesn't have a read/write CD drive, and I don't own an externals to use as backup storage other than a little external 3.5 disk drive (which, painstakingly, I had to use to backup my files before the clean reinstall).
So, in a nutshell, it really doesn't make sense for me to invest a cent more in this one. It's still just barely functional enough for its purposes that I can't really justify buying a new one yet -- but when I do, it will come with Panther preloaded, so I just can't see why I would buy a copy for a computer that probably couldn't even handle running it.
More than you really wanted to know, isn't it?

Before my current iMac, I had a color classic.
Gives you an idea of how often I upgrade, doesn't it?

I had a Mac Plus too, which I passed along to my mom when I bought myself a laptop. She used it until about 1998. 12 years, and it was still going strong, running system 7.5 off of a zip drive. Ultimately she needed a computer that could handle the web better, and the lack of color on the Mac Plus was it's undoing.
Today my mouse keeps jumping to the exact same spot on my screen at weird intervals (coordinates 759,548). I don't know if it's Panther, or a glitch that I didn't notice when I installed the wireless mouse a couple of weeks ago. Bluetooth interference?

I'm not sure yet - supposedly 4-6 months.
Turns out my cursor movement was because I didn't unplug the old mouse

Well, I'd be tempted but for ( a ) the price and ( b ) my USB port goes funny sometimes...to be honest I could do with a new mac

I ordered Panther ages ago. When it didn't come, I donwloaded a copy from a dodgy FTP server. And have been happily using it since. Then my genuine copy came, so now I even have it legally!

May (or may not) make those people who haven't yet gone over to Panther think again.

Yes indeed, as usual Apple have got all they deserve for having such a closed Beta testing iniative. I would however recommend upgrading. I have noticed a significant speed increase...
