TWAIN and OS X

Hi all
I am having some problems with TWAIN and OS X.
I have an iMac DV G3 400MHz running OS X 10.1.5 (can't afford Jaguar). I also have an Epson Stylus Scan 2000 all-in-one printer/(single sheet feed)scanner and therein lies the problem.
Epson have not ported the drivers to OS X and probably never will. I managed to find a hack for the printer driver via Google Groups (apparently the printing engine in the 2000 is a Stylus 740 which is supported).
I have just downloaded TWAIN for OS X and I think I have put the right bits in the right places in the System by logging in as 'Root' to make changes.
Does anyone know whether there is an Epson TWAIN that will work with the SS2000 in OS X?
Is there a philanthropic hacker out there who has done the port and is willing to share it?
Or should I start doing the lottery again in the hope that I can win enough for a new iMac and printer/scanner etc., etc.?
In hope

I'm afraid I can't help in any productive way, but as a total non-sequitur I can mention that TWAIN stands for "Technology Without An Interesting Name" - really!

An unfortunate epithet that has stuck!
Have a look at http://www.twain.org/faq.htm 'What is TWAIN and acronym for?' for their take on the subject! ^2

That's not what I heard... Supposedly, lacking an official name for the project, it was an in-joke between the original programming team working on it, and nobody thought to let the marketing department in on what it stood for before they had printed it in expensive, glossy brochures...
I'm pretty sure I read that in "The Devil's DP Dictionary", so it's got at least as strong a claim to being fact as their version...

I have no idea if this will help, but it's worth taking a look at:

Oooh - it should work, and even better, it's included in fink
http://fink.sourceforge.net
If you haven't used fink, it automatically installs unix-based software without you needing to know anything about compiling and tweaking the code to make it work on OS X. That's the way to go.

Thanks for those d'Elaphant.
I'll have a better look tomorrow.
