So these two Jehover's Witnesses were walking towards me, and I held my breath and waited.
Sure enough, they swooped.
This was an interview with a difference, though. The lady flapped the magazine at me, but chose instead to talk about my reading preferences. Wow, what an opportunity! At this subject, I excel!
So she started off by mentioning that I might have read a glossy recently, and learned something from its articles. Nope, I said. Well, she asked, what had I read recently?
I took a deep breath and mentioned Harry Potter and Julian May in the same breath. She smiled over the first one, and ignored the second one. Said she'd had lots of conversations about Harry Potter. (The man smiled and nodded mutely at this point. He was clearly just eye-candy.) Then she steered the conversation back to her prepared script.
Had I heard of Jane Eyre? I took a deep breath, was about to start moaning about the dim-witted love-besotten governess, when she added that most people hadn't even heard of her. Then she asked, Did I know she was a poet before she began writing?
A light dawned. I ventured to suggest she meant Jane Austen. Ah, yes, she said, she often got them muddled up. In any case, when was the last time I'd read the Bible?
I suppose you had to be there...

Tee hee!
I never get Hehovah's witnesses...it's a shame really, as I'd love to hear about their religion. Then afterwards, I'd talk to them about *my* religion...

And what's your religion? I'm just being nosy now.
I must admit to a feeling of dread as they pounced. I've been on the receiving end of some "advice" about religion, and they tried to make it personal! By the end, I had decided I wouldn't give info so freely again. As you saw, I did try to instruct them about books - but I doubt they were in a learning mood.

I never get stopped by people like that - but that could be because I just look naturally grumpy.
Although, one of my very best friends is a Jehova's Witness. Very early on in our relationship she said she'd never talk about it, but would answer any questions I cared to ask without going on and on. And since I never ask, religion hardly ever comes into our conversations.

Sort of a cross of Nighthooverism and pastafarianism.

Wow, that's a pair of very fine religions! And, Sho, I've nothing against Witnesses, it was just the very odd conversation that made me laugh!

oh yes, they can be very odd.
Thanks, RF, for the reminder about Pastafarianism.
