Mostly they consist of chugging down large quantities of warm liquids (At least 2-4 degrees Celcius. Usually this liquid is anti-freeze), locating some other people who're also in the chugging mood (It's a large area and sparsely populated. This is often the tricky bit), then chugging some more and finding somewhere out of the wind (There's always wind) and then participate in whatever physical activities you're capable of (depending on the weather and the level of blood in your anti-freeze circulatory system).
Nothing more to it. Though this behaviour is bare necessity for survival, it has lead to the impression that northeners are an imoral bunch of drunks with filthy language. (Swearing is another technique for keeping warm, by the way).

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
