Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Nov 11, 2011
This crops up every year around this time, and every year we explain that it won't work. We had a poppy smiley once, and the Royal British Legion demanded that it be removed for copyright reasons. So we can't have one, end of story.

at the past h2g2 eds for not including a list of rejected smilies, with reasons, on the above page. Would've saved time all round.
I thought I could remember a poppy. The British Legion must have copyrighted a range of simplified poppy images to make it difficult to make one that doesn't breach their copyright, as opposed to just their usual two petal one. I think they sometimes use larger four petalled ones.

Seriously? Copyright?! It's lucky they don't know about the one currently growing in my garden.
But I still see no logical reason why we can't have a smiley. A white one would look nice. If we can have a then I think discrimination against other flowers is preposterous. I intend to campaign against such disgusting racial flowerism.

I'm not really here Posted Nov 11, 2011
I think it's a poppy for rememberance that's 'copyright'.
B2688648, although for some reason those links don't work any more. You could put it in an entry and have a look at it, instead.
Or look at this one.

I was trying to find a poppy seller to dump my substantial loose change but couldn't find one if the Royal British Legion have stopped 'us' putting up poppies then I'll give the money to one of my usual charities...

But we can't really moan about their attitude they are certainly fully aware that men died so they could be up their own arses and totally fail to see the irony in what they are demanding...of course it could be their lawyers rather than them.
However, based on their attitude I'll never give to the charity again...I will of course carry out the 2 minutes silence on 11/11/11 as I have done today...I do not do the Sunday one as a rule...once is enough.

I wanted to do a minutes silence at 11 but my friend would not stop talking. I resorted to nods and grunts for a minute. I will pay proper observance on Sunday.
I wouldn't let this stop me from buying a RBL poppy or supporting them. I'm just disappointed in the alleged 'all poppies are us' attitude. No flower family belongs to any organisation, and it never should.

Malabarista
You mean the BBC were asked to stop doing it not the new company.
Quickly allow us to use one and then if the British Legion Lawyers send 'us' a letter publish it on site then the rest of us will pass the link on to various other media outlets...Private Eye, The Sun etc...the British Legion get shown up for being idiots...we get some promotion.
How can we lose?
In fact I have seen 'the Poppy' on red tops etc for years...
