It continues to amaze me that discussions about "mental health" almost always become discussions of mental illness. What does it mean to actually be healthy mentally?

That's rather like asking what it means to be physically healthy. I'm not sure what 'health' is, we tend to define these things in terms of lack of illness. Are any of us completely healthy either mentally or physically? Probably not.

What is health and what is illness? In the past, health has been considered as a state conforming with some "normal" state, so being in a somewhat different state was considered illness. Then, illness has been defined as a state, where someone suffers from a condition, so being healthy is being considered as being without any suffering...
