To cycle 70 miles from Edinburgh to St Andrews on Saturday the 18th of June.

Training Schedule:

1. Cycle to station (3 miles) and then station to work (2 miles) for my commute every day for 2 weeks.

2. Cycle all the way to work and back (10 miles) every day until 18th of June.

3. Supplement with weekend Munros.

4. Avoid ending up under a bus.

It's raising money for Leprosy.. or something.. but I know I won't actually *do* any training until I've written a cheque to someone for something. So yes, I've paid my £23, time to get cycling.

It's lovely whether and an lovely ride to work so it should be fun smiley - smiley

Weather even.

A note to my wife:

Yes there is the risk of ending up under a bus, but it will give me nice legs.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Don't forget the lycra shorts, and the need to be aerodynamic and shave your legs smiley - biggrinsmiley - silly \Goodluck, I used to love cycling when I could do it, we'd often do very long rides over the weekends, with camping overnight too... I doubt I'd be fit enough these days to even cycle from one end of town to the other smiley - blushsmiley - puffsmiley - goodluck

70 miles. That's a real challenge. smiley - goodluck with it!

I've started cycling two days ago and have cycled five miles (in hilly terrain) on three days in a row now. I hope the weather will allow me to do it on a daily basis (and slowly adding a mile here and there). Today was drizzle, but it wasn't too bad.

The cycle / train / cycle commute today took 1 hour 15 minutes. Which isn't too bad compared to a 45 minute car journey. My fitness has a long way to go.

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Cycling speed builds up really quickly, even pulling the trailer and with the child seat on the bike (both of which act like a giant brake)over hills into a head wind I can do the 6 miles to gym in about 40 minutes. Took me an hour the first time I did it but had got to 45 mins by the third time I did it (with other shorter rides in between).

I hope so, it's odd but doing exercise on the way to work reminds me that I am a thin healthy person.

One of my big problems is that I haven't had the time to do all the things I wanted to do if I was thin. I don't care about my appearence but wanted to do more extreme sports and outdoor stuff. But I just haven't had the time to do it, so to be honest being thin hasn't really been worth the effort!

So I just need to make myself do more outdoor stuff. The problem is that Ben doesn't really enjoy outdoor stuff, and the last thing I want to do with my spare time is something that doesn't involve Ben.

I *reallY* identify with that! Been trying to persuade J to get a bike for about three years now! The only outdoorsy stuff he likes is running (which we can't do with the kids in tow) and walking (which we sort of can) but not coasteering or stuff like that which I thought I'd get to do when I was thin. Currently working on getting him to agree to Go Ape with me, but he isn't keen on heights (hilarious for a man who is 6'6) so doesn't want to go dangling on wires.

Oh and are you already picking up Scottish inflections? I can only hear that 'but' with a Scottish accent smiley - smiley

If you come to stay for the cycle ride then we can leave J and Ben with your kids and we'll go to Go Ape. I've wanted to go for *ages* but it's not Ben's thing.

Not sure about the Scottish inflictions, I know I've dropped by Brummie ones though. Edinburgh is hardly scotland really.
