The people who work at my localish computer exchange are ingrates, and, what's worse, probably students to boot. The reason I say this is because I have just tried to exchange my 17" TFT monitor plus some cash for a super snazzy rotating 19" TFT monitor. The reason I am trying to do this is because I am building an arcade machine/mass copyright infringement engine and I want a big screen that, crucially, can be easily rotated so I can have full screen action on the vertical scrolling shooters that I so love, as well as the standard beat 'em up style horizontal alignment. Anyway, I didn't take a VGA cable with my 17" and was rudely told that I need to have a VGA cable with the monitor or they wouldn’t take it. "Fine" I said and trotted off to the ATM, withdrew the money for the new screen, came back, queued again, bought the new screen, unplugged the VGA cable and put it with the 17" so I could get my money back. But now they still won't take it. Why not? Because -as I was told by the fat she-student serving me- it's not the right VGA cable. "What the f*ck are you on about?" I inquired. It needs to be the one that came with the monitor. I haven't been so gob smacked by anything since I broke into my sister’s lock up box. "They're all the same, man" I said, but there was a strange feeling of defeat creeping over me as I had to be in work in about 20 minutes and already argued with the girl over whether it was a 17" (which it is) or a 15" (which it is not). The young lady had this look on her face like she was trying to remember what she’d had for breakfast and it gave me the distinct feeling that testing the monitor and getting my money sorted etc etc was going to take ages even if I could transfer my transactions to someone who wasn't some kind of distracted, VGA cable elitist. So I abandoned shop and took both monitors to work, which is where I am now, with two TFT monitors, writing this.
