I was trying to find the cheese counter, followed someone in a green parker pushing a trolley with a wonky wheel and I appear to have made a wrong turning and found your personal space instead. Maybe I took a wrong turn by the baked beans. My mistake is also my good fortune though.
Welcome to h2g2 My name is deackie and I'm an ACE (assistant community editor), one of the merry band of volunteers who meet and greet new researchers and provide any assistance if it's needed.
h2g2 can seem a little overwhelming at first so my advice is to have a look around to get a feel of the place and join in some conversations to meet people. If you haven't already looked at it, check out the Welcome page http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Welcome it's a good place to start. Another good way to get a feel of the community is to look at other researchers' personal spaces. If you click on the 'Who's Online' button you can click on any of the researchers' names and visit their space.
Smileys are a way to brighten up postings and guide entries. The smiley list can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Smiley or you can click on any smiley and it will take you to the code
If you need any help feel free to ask. You can either reply to this posting by clicking on the reply button below or visit my personal space by clicking on my name at the top of this posting. I'm usually around either drinking and eating or quaffing
Finally, may I share my personal philosophy with you? You know you are truly lost when grass is growing down the middle of the road you are travelling. At this point it's a good idea to find someone else to follow.

Hi Deackie,
Wow, thanks for the warm welcome . I couldn't believe how fast you guys are and that it was a real message, and not computer generated!
And for the record, I have been down that road with the grass growing in the middle .. and as you may have expected, I ended up a long way from where I was going, but found a wonderful beaver dam and a very curious buck deer. And I don't even remember where what I was trying to find now
This is a wonderful sight you guys have here. I have been reading and lurking for a while and thought that it was time to contribute.
Cheers,
Steve (aka Foxtrot1)

I'm glad you like the site I love it and I think that's because of all the wonderful people I have met on here and the variety of interesting and often completely nonsensical conversations that go on. I'm looking forward to the Christmas meet now so that I can meet some of the researchers in RL (scary thought). From what I've read about other meets I'd better be prepared for lots of Life can be tough
Have you had a look at the H2G2 Post yet? It's h2g2's weekly newspaper and as well as a darn good read it also has some pages of links to community places worth visiting. It's worth a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/ThePost
You'll soon be wondering what ever life was like without h2g2
