The waste of life, talent, information, buildings etc etc etc in New York

Post 1

Shelley

The sheer waste of everything in New York this week, by an unknown for seemingly an unknown reason. And even if it is for a cause, is it worthwhile? How much is the cost of a life? let alone of thousands of lives, not to mention the loss felt by all the families and friends and relatives of the many missing and dead?

If bin Laden was behind this atrocity, and if the American government manage to get hold of him and even if they manage to hang him for what has happened, will that change anything? Will that in anyway bring back the dead, or suddenly reerect the twin towers?

How does one deal with this kind of loss? Punishment does not undo any criminal activity, and according to several statistics and studies it doesn't even discourage criminals. So what is the solution? How does one reconcile to such a loss and how can we prevent it from happening again?
