Day 3 of 5
Scarab Started conversation Sep 5, 2001
he's going home to his family on Friday, back into rehab.
Due to come round at 6pm today, he arrived at 8.30, just as his mother was on the phone. They talked at length, the flight is arranged, he leaves in a couple of days. In the meantime he's gonna hopefully be hiding here. I suppose I'll find out how well that plan works by what time he comes over tomorrow, and by how straight he is when he gets here.
We talked, lots.
So, as far as I can tell, he's been using heroin again for six weeks now after six months clean. He's also used crack. ((((F**KWIT ARSE DICKHEAD TOSSER))))) Since around a fortnight ago he's been injecting daily. He says he last used last night, but could also have been this afternoon before he came over. He says he really wants to stop, he says hes never really wanted to quit before. I have no idea how far to believe him. Suspect he's trying to convince himself.
We spent the evening in watching tv. Chatted with housemates, ususal stuff. Neither of them is aware of his habit. One thinks he has designs on moving back into the house, the other that I have a hopeless crush on him. Both, though to some extent right, aren't seeing the needlemarks. He's told them nothing, nor have I.
I'm happy to see him here, happy that he's going home and will try rehab. I hope he succeeds. Between now and his going home, he's going to hang out here, and hopefully not take heroin. Whether he does or not is down to him, I've extended a welcome for him to be here. He thanked me for a fun night and left at 4am.
I should see him tomorrow, the sooner the better, the straigher the better. I'm glad this has a certain endpoint, it gives a clear limit to how much time I need to give this, I can manage another couple of days... beyond that, who can tell - it enters the realms of potential SEP fields and who knows what tomorrow (or next year) will bring.
its good to be able to do this journal keeping, and after he has gone I will vent the whole thing to a good but more distant friend.
over and out

I'm not really here Posted Sep 5, 2001
If he's staying at your place that's a good sign, as he's away from all the things that make him think of drugs. Except his body, but at least he's not socialising with other addicts.

Agreed. If he can get out of his usual routine and away from the circle of so-called friends who think using is normal and OK he stands a MUCH better chance of making a break. However, I have to say, he'll be doing incredibly well to stay off the d**ned stuff till he goes but I do wish you both all the very best for the next few days.

no sign of him today. I spoke to his mother.
I'll visit him tomorrow and suggest he spends the night here so that he can get up ready for his flight, straight.
I that don't work, me and my mate will go to his place early on Friday morning to 'see him off.'
if that don't work...
Its possible he's having one last bender before he makes the flight and goes to rehab. or maybe not.
I'll certainly be talking to his mum again tomorrow, and maybe seeing him. maybe he'll be here tomorrow nite, maybe not.
Word of the day is uncertainty
