Setting the record straight

I met a fruitarian once. He didn't eat anything which required the consumption of or destruction of the whole plant. Plums good Carrots bad. Pommes good pommes de terre bad (apples good spuds bad) I think. Way too many rules for me to stick with. And certainly no dairy produce.
I hear we share about 70% of our dna with carrots. I wonder when they crawled out of the primordial slime?
Peanut anyone?

Oh, what the heck was I watching when I heard this line: "Oh yeah?... Bet you never heard a lettuce scream, now have ya?"

Fruitarians are just mental. But hey, good luck to 'em I say - I like my carrots and cheese too much

I'm currently flirting with veganism. I say flirting because I'm not totally ok with the killing of male calves that goes on in the diary industry. You need to do something with a calf to take the milk, and as there's no market for veal at the moment they're shot at 7 days old.
I can't manage it when eating out, and I give in occasionally, but mostly I'm ok. I do still eat eggs, and I don't care that I'm not a proper vegan. Eggs where I know the chickens, rather than battery eggs.

Free range eggs taste so much better than battery eggs too
The darker side of the dairy industry does bother me a lot. I don't like what happens to most male calves and the fact the cows are injected with hormones to make them continue producing milk, but quite frankly most alternative dairy products taste horrible. Vegan cheese is the most vile thing I've ever tasted - and I've tried salad cream

Ah! Dairy industry. I was wondering what was wrong with those little books full of dates.
I suppose you could drink milk from cows you know, too.

In the 'vegetarian' section of the cafeteria here at the local uni, they once served a dish which had wee pieces of meat in it (possibly turkey)
Of course this is Germany, so I guess that if it is tiny bits of poultry it doesn't count as meat

That happened to me in Italy - I was served a lovely creamy pasta dish...with ham in it. Unfortunately my Italian isn't half as good as my French so I just picked the ham out and carried on eating

I read this and thought of this thread instantly.
An argument for eating oysters from a near vegan.
