h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

After harassing the crap doctor at the local surgery and getting nowhere and going to see another doctor, I have a result. I put down my explosive and unexplained weight gain, mega dry hair and constant tiredness and coldness down to not being very active (although I had these symptoms before I stopped working and couldn't explain the dry hair). Turns out I have an excuse for it all - I have an underactive thyroid!

All those bloody years of listening to my granny saying hers was responsible for this, that and the other and not believing her - and she was right!! Mind you, when the doctor told me and I burst out laughing he found it funny too

All the prescriptions you can eat! Can you get Buckfast on prescription? I hear it's a tonic.

It wouldn't be so bad if I liked the stuff or if I was a ned - or both!

Not too bad, thanks. Only been taking the tablets for five days so I've still to see some improvement; still mega sleepy come dinner time and the weight will take a while to disappear but I'm quietly confident It's just so good to know what's been troubling me for so long though, but I think I'll still keep my appointment with the gynaecologist - just in case!
