very interesting! Should I wait for 3G phones or is it worth buying a 2.5 in between?

Ooops! Sorry about the extreme delay.
I think that it really depends on what you want to do with your phone.
If you want to use it for calls, then stick to GSM, or 2G.
If you want to surf around a bit and will be shoving data around, then move up to 2.5G (GPRS), but check that there is decent coverage in the areas you will be using it first.
Personally, I'd wait and use my GSM phone connected to a laptop / palm computer. The data rate is not too hot, but it is at least a cheap(ish) and workable solution.
3G, in my opinion, won't be around and in your pocket for a while yet.
Cheers.

As to the timeframe... In the meantime I'm deeply involved in 3G phonology, job-wise Yep, it won't be there by tomorrow

... actually, I've got plans to make a h2g2 University project out of it but then I'm a procrastinator and there's still another Uni project to be finished first. How about some cooperation?
Thanks for calling back!

University project?
Yeah, that sounds interesting. Fill me in when you have time.
Cheers.
