Welcome to h2g2.
My name's Ardzil and I'm an ACE (assistant community editor). ACEs are volunteers who meet and greet new researchers.
h2g2 is a great place but it is big and it's easy to feel a bit lost sometimes (I know I did) so if you need any help or advice just click on the reply button at the bottom of this posting, leave a message and I'll get back to you.
The first question most new researchers ask is "how do you put those smileys in your postings". Well if you click on this one---> it will take you to the smiley page.
I've put together a page of links you might find useful
http:www.//bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A614495
Feel free to drop by my page anytime you feel like a chat, you can get there by clicking on my name at the top of this posting. Once there click on the `discuss this entry` button, put in a subject and type away.
Remember you can always get back to your page by clicking the `my space` button.
Catch you later
Have fun
Ardzil
P.S. Don't worry about your typing mine isn't so hot either.

Hello and thank you for the welcome.
I take it that your messages stay on my page for a while? Or do they get removed after a certain amount of time / when there is no space for new messages? I don't log on that often you see and so I'd hate to find your tips gone before I got a chance to use and learn them!
Well I can't talk long as I'm actually at work at the moment (but don't worry I adjust my time sheet for this kind of thing so I'm not going to get into trouble) and I have a nasty problem to try and solve before I go on holiday.

Messages stay on your page for as long as you want. Underneath this one it says `click here to unsubscribe from this conversation`, and on your page underneath each message it says `unsubscribe` clicking either of these is the only way messages can be removed from your page (unless you break the house rules, then a moderator may remove a posting).
You don't run out of space for messages, at the bottom of the postings list on everybody's pages it says `click here to see more conversations` this then lists all the conversations you are still subscribed to in blocks of 25. As far as I know there isn't a limit on the number of blocks.
Catch you later

well that's good then cos next week I'm away for a fortnight with possibly no access to a PC (how will I cope?) so it will be interesting to see how many more people have said hello to me while I am gone. Shoudl I leave an answer phone message (or whatever the equivalent is) while i'm away?!
So where would you recommend for holiay then? WE haven't chosen a location yet so we are open for ideas
speak later

No access to a PC
As for leaving an answer phone message, you could put a short message at the top of your page, that way people won't feel miffed if you don't answer them for a while.
Location-well I don't know what sort of things you like to do, or how much money you want to spend doing them, so I'm going to pass on this one.
Although somewhere near an internet cafe might be an idea.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have a good time.
