Ward family in Ash

Post 1

Hi
My name is Les Ward and i have been researching my family who originated in Ash.

Looking at the book 'Ash Roots' I notice there are some Wards mentioned, particularly Charles and Sarah.

Does anyone have any information that might lead me to trace any living descendants of my family ?

Les

Hey liverpool_les, welcome to h2g2 smiley - smiley. Sorry for not replying earlier but I've been away the week.

Do you have any Christian names to add to Ward? Would the Charles and Sarah mentioned be family? I'm a relative newcomer round here but we've a Village fete on Sunday and it'd be a good chance to ask around.

Also - which house did the 'Ash Roots' book associate with the Wards. I do have a copy ... somewhere, but where is a good question.

I'll see if anyone knows of any Wards still living locally, anyway.

Hi Waz
Sorry I have only just picked up your reply to my mail.

Since my mail I have now been able to identify the Charles and Sarah Ward in 'Ash Roots'
I sent a request to the letters page of the Shrophire Star and received a call from Cynthia Ward who is also in the book. She informed me that Charles was her Father. Cynthia is now living in Shrewsbury and tells me that there are now no Wards remaining in Ash. I traced her family back and we have a common ancestor in Joseph Ward who was born in 1801.

The Ward's lived in Ash Lane for generations in the 1800's. Probably at No. 8.
Thanks for your reply and if you do hear any further information particularly about the cottages in Ash Lane please let me know. I will keep a more regular look out in future.

regards
Les

I'd forgotten about this smiley - smiley. I did ask around, and drew a blank. Which makes sense given what you've found out since.

If I hear anything, I'll post here. And I'll see if I can identify number 8. It's not a road I've gone down many times. It runs almost parallel to a much more used road and is really only for access to the few houses scattered along it.

Hi
Thanks for your reply
I believed originally that the Wards lived at No.7 and have had a look at this. It is the end cottage of the block. I now have further info that makes me think they lived at No 8 . I seem to remember that there was another cottage a little further down Ash Lane set back from the road which could be No. 8.
It would be interesting if you could check it.

Hi,

Where can I find the "Ash Roots" book? Some of my ancestors were born and lived there.

Thanks,

Nikki-ann.

Hi there, sorry for not answering sooner - I was away when you posted and missed this.

Best place is to try the Whitchurch Heritage Centre. Contact details are on http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/museum_gfx_en/AM18940.html

The books were a one off print run done with Millenium funding. Copies were given free round everyone in the village or who contributed then the remainder were given for sale through the Heritage Centre. I think they've pretty well sold out but may have an odd one or two left.

Let me know how you get on. There may be someone else with a few copies up their sleeve.

Do you know what address your ancestors lived at?
