Zarquon's Singing Fish!

I've been worried about little smiley - fish's weight and I've been nagging him about it. I hate nagging, but I've been unable to find a way of getting through to him. I'm aware that I'm heavier myself than I would like. I woke up last night and three words came to me, 'Fit and lean'. Yes, I thought - what he needs is a target, not to focus on what he doesn't want. I spoke to him about it this morning and he said yes. I asked if he had a role model to model himself after. He couldn't immediately think of one. I asked if he could suggest anyone for me and he said, "Paula Radcliffe". http://www.paularadcliffe.com/smiley - yikes Actually, I'm thinking, I could do worse. I'll never have her hips, as my bones are much wider than hers.

I wonder who a good role model for little smiley - fish would be?

Hi Fb smiley - star! I suggested Tom Daley http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/diving/7251148.stm to little smiley - fish. He thought he was too slim. I thought he was about the right age (he's a year or two older than him).

I've put a Paula Radcliffe wallpaper on my Mac.

smiley - sorry Paula Radcliffe - driven, almost obsessive, painfully thin. I am not sure I would choose her as a role model, but perhaps little smiley - fish recognised something in hersmiley - huh

Jacob is skinnier than that! But without the 6 pack! I've been trying to feed him up for years.

Websailor smiley - dragon - I suspect that Paula Radcliffe is probably not a very good role model for me, as she is over five inches taller than me, but I was her weight before I put weight on, so I can aim for the 54kg that she is.

Mina - little smiley - fish was very thin until I started going out with R and we both started eating meat and smiley - ermsmiley - blush - yummies. Both of us put quite a lot of weight on.smiley - wah

We've just come back from the Motor Show at Excel, which was very enjoyable. There was a full-blown tantrum on the way home when I wouldn't buy him the chips he wanted.

J was 'prescribed' junk food once a week by his specialist a long time ago. You can see that by looking at my waistline, but not at J's!

'J was 'prescribed' junk food once a week by his specialist a long time ago.' What sorts of things does he have and when, Mina. That sounds a really interesting way of handling it. How do you handle things like cravings for crisps and chips?

J doesn't get any cravings for food - he never had smiley - choc until he was 9 due to a problem with dairy so has never really developed a taste for it, and due to the ritalin he was on he never had an appetite. The first time he got hunger pangs he didn't know what they were!

He does get more hungry now (he's been off the ritalin for a few years now) but I just give him more food at mealtimes and we have one snack a day as well.

For our junk food prescription, we eat at MacDonalds or KFC once a week when we go grocery shopping, and usually as well when we're travelling for camping trips.

Very dear ZSF,

Are you giving little smiley - fish meat .and or fish? If his system has got used to it, it is going to be difficult to wean him off if he is no longer having it.

Don't worry about the odd packet of chips. I agree that he has changed shape, but he really was very very thin before. He looks like a very healthy young teenager now. !

When are you going camping? Have a wonderful time and enjoy yourselves.

Our love to you both

Yes, I am giving him meat (mostly chicken) and fish. I took Mina's advice and let him have chips tonight - paid for with some money he got from selling some Yu-gi-oh cards, not from the money set aside for the holiday.

My weight loss drive was helped today by my not eating until very late, as I have been unwell after eating some nuts. I don't remember nuts affecting me like this before, but talking to one of my neighbours this evening, she had had exactly the same experience. R is always very wary of nuts as he says they get a 'bloom' which is poisonous if they're not fresh. I bought the nuts the day before from one of those discount stores, so possibly they may not have been fresh, despite being in a tin.

We're going camping on Friday in East Sussex. I do hope the weather is fine. I don't mind cold, I don't mind a bit of rain, and I hope it's not extremely hot or a mudbath.

There will be a lake for swimming and a canoe, so I'm packing swimmies. smiley - bluefish

Zarquon's Singing Fish!

HI Christiane,

Thank you for the invitation. It would be lovely to see you after our holidays. Still finishing off the packing and we'll be away first thing tomorrow, hopefully.

Little smiley - fish had a disappointment this morning. He had been invited to a TV show aimed at 9-12 year olds - the Richard Hammond Science Show. We got up super early and just made the train. We arrived at the venue 20 minutes early, only to find that all the places had been taken and we were turned away. Poor dear. It was such a disappointment for him. He took it reasonably well, but has been moping around all day.

With smiley - love

What a rotten shame. They should issue tickets or something to children that age to avoid disappointment, especially if people have to travel.
