Prideth - Queen dragon - protector of otters, and otternuts alike Posted Dec 15, 2003
Hi Z
What tends to make me (with joy, as you say) is the incredible beauty of Mother Nature! Standing, spellbound, breathless in the copper light of dusk watching otters play in the river, tears of sheer joy streaming down my face! Or, feeling like I'm part of the sea, getting hypnotised/energised by the musical rhythm of the waves, tasting the saltiness, spray on my cheeks, the sound of the gulls, the wind whipping my hair.....!
just thinking about it has got me started!
I think BOF's are born that way, so you could never be one Z !

Prideth I wouldn't want to be a BOF!
What a lovely image you describe. Roy has big feelings for the sea. I think I said, he was on a ship (well, several) for some years; he was a ship's engineer.
I must admit to loving watching the dusk falling and the way the light hits the water and the rooftops (from my high rise office!). Later in the year, the saturated colours are just wonderful.

BOF? Me neither Z ! To BOF with BOFs, I say!
Yeah Z , I remember you saying about Roy and the Navy. The sea is just so full of wonder and energy, it's impossible, methinks, not to be affected deeply by it.
I've been out looking for otters by the riverside at dusk before, well, you need to get there slightly before dusk so as to get settled in a non-obtrusive place. Then to sit, quiet as a church , and watch the light and colours change, and the river itself transforms into molten copper, and everything is glowing, (even more spectacular in Autumn!), it truly takes your breath away, your skips a beat or three, and you're so overwhelmed by Nature's majesty that the tears come unbidden ! You're really part of this wonderful whole, that is our !
Oops! Z , I do tend to get rather carried away!

Otters are back on the Thames, near Henley (I think that's the right bit ), so it wouldn't be far for you to go watching, .
I must admit that I'm really lucky when it comes to local rivers inhabited by otters. There's the Clyde, the Nethan, the Calder, and their tributaries/burns. It's great to have recorded their presence again locally.

Henley's not all that near, Jick ! Well, I suppose it is geographically, but practically getting there, either by public transport or car would take ages. London traffic is really heavy these days. When you describe otters, I get vivid mental pictures, though!

how of me! of course, looking at the map doesn't necessarily give an accurate indication of how to get there, and more importantly, how long it would take, .
I'm chuffed to bits that I've managed to portray such a vivid image of our piscavarious pals!
