Hello Keeper of the Texts, or should I say Wes. I thought I would check out your corner of h2g2. I like your dragon intro, you do have a taste for fantasy indeed. I keep hearing good things about Terry Goodkind, I'm going to have to try some of his stuff. I just finished a fantasy book by Tanith Lee called Wolf Tower. Now I've started on the sequel Wolf Star. I'm a big fan of Ray Bradbury. Do you like his short stories? My favorite is Frost and Fire, about a world where people only live a few days. I also like fantasy author Connie Willis - Lincoln's Dreams, Bellwether, and Doomsday Book.

Hi Ellen--

I've never read anything by Tanith Lee, but I think I've heard of her. I have a few Ray Bradbury books, but I'm not very interested in them, or science fiction in general. I'm a fantasy person. Even though lots of people like to mix science fiction and fantasy. Grrr... But that's another rant.
I've found a good way to discover new authors is to find anthologies. That way you get short samplers of each author's style. A favorite is Robert Asprin's "Thieves' World" series--lots of prominent authors there.
You like the introduction? I based part of it off of a hilarious little QuickTime film clip named Summoner Geeks. You can find it at [url removed by moderator]. That URL will probably be blocked out, so let's just say that the address may or may not have included an "ifilms" in it, [url removed by moderator]It's even funnier if you're a role-player.
Now I think I'll go check out your personal space on the guide. Sounds sort of funny, that. "I'm going to intrude into your personal space now!" (It's 11 PM and I'm getting a little disconnected....)

Did you know that Bradbury defines himself as a fantasy writer, and not a science fiction one? (The debate rages on.)

As for anthologies, I like very much one called The Night Fantastic, edited by Poul and Karen Anderson. All of the stories tie in to dreams, in one way or another. My favorite is Dreaming is a Private Thing by Isaac Asimov. But again that may fall into the sci-fic category, not fantasy. I read the Dragonriders of Pern a while back, I think that would be considered fantasy.

I won't be able to take a look at that film clip unless I go over to my brother's, which I might do eventually. I'll keep the address for future reference. Alas, my computer is old and tempermental, and it simply throws up it's metaphorical hands when confronted with a film clip.

How did you like my "Space"? I'm proud of it in an egocentric kind of way.
sincerely, Ellen smiley - smiley

Bradbury a fantasy author? All the stories I read by him, at least all the sort stories, had rockets in them. Hmm. I guess it's a fine line between fantasy and sci-fi.
I think the dividing line between the two genres is explanation. A fantasy author will write a book with dragons in it, and say that they are dragons. A science fiction author will write a book in which there are dragons, and say that the dragons were found on an alien planet, and give the evolutionary history of the dragons. I guess what I'm saying is that fantasy authors don't need to have a reason for things existing in their stories, they just *are*.

That makes sense to me. Defines them rather nicely I think.

David Eddings said something like that in his Rivan Codex. I thought it described the difference pretty well.

I saw WyrmMaster's name on the who's online pop-up. I could guess immediately whom it was...
I saw your improved page, too. Looks like it'll be great when the construction finishes. How do you make the subject headings? The ones that separate all the sections of your page... I've seen them elsewhere, but I don't know how to make them. I could look it up, but I'd rather ask you.
Also, do you know anything about me getting loved? I logged on and a total stranger have written me on the behalf of an H2G2 organization, saying I was loved. Not that that's a bad thing... It sounded like somebody thought I was considering suicide or something.
Oh well. Just some thoughts. I wonder if the Guide has an instant messaging service...

Yes, I noticed that part about being loved too. And I just updated my page again, so now all I need to do are link some other pages in (e.g. Keepers and muses) and then I'll be all set.

Anyways, you do the section breaks with this syntax:
this is a header

You really should check out the guideML clinic, as it has some useful info.

Hey Wes, I was curious about that message you received, so I did some snooping and came up with The Willem Love Collective. It's a group of Researchers who have decided to tell each and every active Researcher on h2g2 that they are loved. Isn't that amazing? I think it's very sweet. Ciao, Ellen

Vidmaster, the new page is nice. You must have typed your fingers off.
