kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Our smiley - dog beasties have gone to be rehomed smiley - wah

The thing that pushed us to do it was that the doctors suggested that The Boy's asthma and eczema might be aggravated by their hair. That coupled with #2 coming along made us realise that they are really not going to be getting the attention they desrve and need. It is the best thing all round but I am very, very sad about it.

I will now worry constantly for them until they are settled in their new home - I can't keep bothering the people that take them but I hope they'll be able to let us know in a while that they are happy. smiley - brave

I'd love to get another cat (I miss Dewey and Flossie and I can't even have them over to visit cos then I'd have to get a pet deposit which I can't really afford) but my nose and eyes are a whole lot better these days. I wish I wasn't allergic to cat fur.

I'm not really here

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. smiley - sadface Where have they gone?

Some people who take in rescues do keep the previous owner updated with emails and perhaps photos to start with. Visits tend to be discouraged though - dogs do get used to change really quickly, so I am sure they will settle happily somewhere.

We phoned a few places but the one we thought they would do best at was the Dog's Trust in Newbury. I couldn't speak to them without crying so J sorted it all out and took them there on saturday. He said it looked good and there were loads of volunteers there playing with the dogs. I hope they aren't there for too long - am having to fight the urge to ring them every day to check they are ok.

I know they are resilient and will love their new owners who will have been vetted etc, but I really miss them!

Gosho - I don't think we could have one of those supercillious, hissing psychopaths even if we wanted one as J's skin starts to itch if he is in the same house as one. It is so sad loving pets but not being able to keep them, but our health has to come first.

If The Boy grows out of his asthma, and #2 doesn't have it, then we might think about getting another beastie when they are a bit older.

I think the average for a DT dog is about one month before being rehomed. Small dogs who aren't staffies have a much better chance of finding a home than bigger dogs.

Have you asked for them to be rehomed together, or don't you get to make that choice?

I'm sorry you are so upset, I would have offered to foster them for a few months, to see if the asthma etc, does improve, but as you've spotted Fred is having some serious problems, and I've got to stop fostering, possibly for good.

They are cute and waggy and friendly so I hope they will not stay long. They said they do try to home them together (although they might be easier pets if they are separated) but will play it by ear and if they think there will be problems putting them together they will split them.

Poor Fred, and poor you!

Not a cat-lover then kelli? Ah well - my feelings towards dogs are similar to yours about cats. Chacun a son gout, eh? smiley - smiley

I absolutely don't like dogs at all but I can understand how sad you are. If I had to let my smiley - blackcat go I'd be very upset.

We had a call from the dog's trust today to tell us that Patsy and Eddie have already found a new family. That is really good news, I hope they settle in quickly and are very happy there. The family has teenage kids and have just lost the last one of their pair of JR crosses who were just like our two apparently. So they have terrier experience and are ready for new beasties.

smiley - brave It is good, but I'm still sad - although it was nice to be able to take The Boy out to play in the garden today without doing a poo patrol first...

it's bound to be strange for a while -but a dog-poo free garden for the summer has got to be a bonus.

That was quick! Nice for the doggies to get into a home in time for summer.

Have you asked if they could send you a couple of photos in the early days?
