Geology / Geophysics?
me[Andy]g Started conversation Feb 25, 2002
Hi there
I don't know who's in charge around here.... but I'd like to start a department of geophysics (and I can add the bits of geology that are necessary too)... what's the best way for me to go about doing this?

p.s. I know I'm a MathEd... but I'm only so because Joe (aka Arnia) talked me into it... so I'd appreciate some advice.

The best way to add a new department would be to write a project for it. Then we can add it.
If you go and sign up at <./>University-Recruit</.> then we'll know exactly what's needed.

Technically, BB's Dinosaurs of the Isle of Wight wasn't archaeology or anthropology - it was palaeontology - but this could be lumped under 'Earth Sciences' or 'Geoscience' I'm in favour of 'Geoscience' with sub catagories. I'm quite interested in a science project on fossilisation/fossils/geology and wouldn't like to see it under 'archaeology' (the study of human artifacts) or 'anthropology' (the study of human behaviour and biology).

Frogbit,
It'd be great if you could start up Geology projects alongside my starting up Geophysics projects - at the moment I have ideas for about three or four separate projects.
I also agree with you that Geoscience sounds better than Earth Science!

Andy - come over my place and we'll talk. I'm keen to hear more about the worldview of a Christian geoscientist.
For the record, I have leanings toward agnostisim, but just don't have the commitment to follow it through

Sounds good to me. Which parts of Geology do you specialise in? - do you have an area that you'd really like to work in, or any area that you'd rather not do anything in?

structural geology is good but rather hard to write about

mineralogy and/or petrology would be good

Talk to Frogbit (leave a message on their personal space) - but I reckon that if you make a start on mineralogy and/or petrology, that would be a good start.
I was planning on doing a bit on structural geology at some point, so working together on that at a later date would probably be a good idea - after you've done a mineralogy / petrology project and I've done a seismology / applied geophysics project.
