some coffee: smiley - coffeesmiley - smiley

Anyway... Hi there and welcome to h2g2! My name is Amy, and I'm an ACE, or Assistant Community Editor, here at the Guide. We ACEs are the offical meeters and greeters of the Guide and we go around doing such things, as well as helping new researchers with whatever problems they may encounter. In order to help out with this kind of problem, here's a little page with links to some of the more helpful places here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A577758

The social life here is part of the fun, so you may also want to check out my page (just click on my name above) which has a list of the organizations I'm involved with at the Guide. Some of them may interest you. In any case, if there's anything you need, please don't hesitate to let me know by either responding to this message or by leaving me a note on my user space. Hope you have fun here-- see you around!

Hey Amy! Thanks for the coffee, though it's not like I don't get enough at work, they have a hot water tap you know, boiling water and so on. It's pretty much coffee on tap! smiley - smiley
Did you read my infinity article? Is it the sort of thing that goes down well or not? I've got one in the pipeline about toothbrushes y'see.... its shaping up nicely IMO, but after all, what's that worth?!? Tuppence? smiley - winkeye

Well, I figured there's never such a thing as *too* much caffeine... smiley - winkeye

I'll have to check out your infinity article... although there may already be an article on it (I can't remember). smiley - erm Same goes for the toothbrush thing...

There are already articles, yes. But I've tackled different issues, in a different style, thus I consider my entries valid. But then again, that's just my opinion! I think there are important things that need to be said, but shouldn't perhaps be added to existing articles. Or something! smiley - winkeye

I read the infinity one... I really liked it. You can ask a scout or sub-editor about getting it into peer review-- what their view is on it. I haven't read the other one yet because of time... real life tends to jump in just when I'm getting to work here. smiley - tongueout I will read it soon, I promise.

I will do just that!
The toothbrush one isn't finished yet, so you'll have to wait for that one smiley - winkeye
As for the off license one, that's just a little joke, so ignore it perhaps smiley - smiley

Hi Chris

You were online when I started reading so I thought I'd come and say Hello.
I just read the infinity article. I really liked it, however I have a feeling the people at Peer Review won't be too pleased with all the references to Hitch-hiker's.
But personally I thought it was great, and I couldn't stop reading it in the style of Peter Jones.

Cool! I did try to pick up that style, because I absolutely love it! It's the best way to write these entries I think, 'cos that's how they work best. And the references were just to obvious to miss I thought... smiley - smiley
Oh well, if they don't like it, then that's their problem I guess. As long as it amuses those people who read it, and I enjoyed writing it, so that's what matters to me! smiley - smiley

Many researchers just write articles for their own joy-- not everyone submits everything they write.

Well, quite. Nice to get some recognition though smiley - smiley

Of course. Since I don't have enough free time to research and write full-blown articles, I usually try to contribute to to the weekly entry colaboration that's on the front page. It's every bit as nice. smiley - smiley

Yeah, I couldn't keep up a weekly commitment or anything though!
I think I'll just keep writing my articles in my style as and when I choose to, and if someone likes them, then that's all the better! smiley - smiley

Good plan. smiley - smiley

And I don't contribute everyweek-- just to the ones I have something semi-useful to say in relation to. (and yes, I realize that was a horribly structured sentence).

Another good point! I'm gonna release my toothbrush thingy soon, then I'll need something new to write about!
