I just saw the film 'Pollock' the other day. It was quite interesting in the way it showed how he actually created his stuff. Apparently Ed Harris had a painting coach.

I've also read about a teenager called Alexandra Nechita who is being called 'The New Picasso'. Apparently her paintings are being sold for many thousands of dollars now.

Meanwhile, I remain very cynical about the art world in general. It mostly seems self-serving. Certain very rich individuals end up deciding what is ART.

I havn't seen Pollack yet, I would like to.

Art is like clothes, theres comfortable stuff, party stuff etc and then theres the fashion bullocks which anyone with sense ignores. If you have lots of money and no brain, then sure let someone else tell you what to wear and what art to like. However if you have a brain and like to like what you like, you don't need to listen to critics or reviewers or anyone else.

So by all means be cynical of the 'artworld' but not art!smiley - winkeye

Oh, I am never cynical about art, Kaz. Just about those who try to tell me what ART is.

And it is the same with clothes, as you pointed out. I think you know I design clothes and worked for many years in Toronto with various fashion designers there. I came to the same conclusion - that the fashion biz was total cr*p but I still loved making clothes.

Though it *is* hard to find a large enough market that is actually thinking for themselves.

I forgot that you designed clothes actually! I love the idea of getting quirky, one-off designs. Same as our art collection. I want something original which I won't find in someone elses home. I often wear boring clothes because I can't be bothered to travel miles to find something original, but it is great to dress up and be noticed especially when wearing something different. Croydon is all chain stores and everyone looks the same, its frightening!

Yoda wishes it to be known that when se finally turns her toes up, she will become a wonderful muff for mummy's hands. She has carefully provided two orifices for the use of; thus ensuring her immortality.

When she starts rotting, she will be made into a cheesebox.

When the cheesebox starts smelling, she will be sprayed with paint by any available 2 year old.

At ANY point in time during all this, if anyone wishes to pay funny money to stick it in their living room, they may do so.

Otherwise, it's called art, because it is a unique one-off thing which has some sort of significance to the creator; aesthetics are a matter of personal opinion for the viewer.

Isn't it great?smiley - artist I've got a collection of similar art to Marla's, done by a number of preschool children--using less expensive materials, of course. Once they go to school and learn to draw "properly", their talent can really go downhill.smiley - cross When my new scanner arrives in a few days, I can show you what I mean.

"Karma dog coats"

My father has been collecting the fur from his long-haired cat for about six years now.smiley - laugh He's very proud of it. He says it's a shame to chuck it away, because it should to be possible to make something nice out of it--only, he doesn't know what.

Those are spectacular, I love them. I have a friend whose daughter painted these completely Zen paintings at 2 or 3. I've lost touch tho and don't know what she's doing now at (omg) 16. smiley - sadface

Here are those pictures I mentioned. Looking at them again, I think I may be heavily biased by the fact that the pictures were done for me by kids I liked.smiley - laugh Anyway, they're all done by toddlers aged two and three.
