What would you call a Druid who wasn't pagan?

I have heard of Christian Druids but they I believe are primarily Christian, all other Druids are pagan so far as I know. How can you follow a nature spiritual belief without being pagan?

You can get Druids of any religion (Christian, Pagan, Buddhist... all sorts), apparently (Check out OBOD's home page: http://www.druidry.org/ ). I can see how this works, since there is no dogma in Druidry, you are free to concieve of Deity as you wish. And Nature is not the exclusive domain of Pagans ;o) You can be of any religion and respect and honour Nature, in my opinion (just that it's a specific part of Paganism). In fact, since, according to Christian belief, God made the Earth, the Universe and all the life in it, all Christians should respect and honour Nature, in my opinion (well, actually I think _everyone_ should, heh).

That's just another perspective on the question, anyway.

The modern Druid movement has its roots in Wales where Druidism was revived at the end of the 19th. century by an organization known as 'The Druids of Pontypridd'. They claimed a fair number of adherents in Wales but a much greater following in America. The Arch-Druid, Myfyr Morganwg who had been a Christian minister for 30 years, publicly proclaimed the creed of his forefathers. He was followed by Owen Morgan, known as 'Morien', whose version of Welsh Druidism can be found in a book published in 1894 and called 'The Light of Briannia'. Much if not all the teaching in these books came from Eastern mysticism, classical mythology and the Jewish, Hindu and Buddhist religions. This is probably why there is no dogma in modern Druidism. Druidry (yuk) has much the same relationship to the Secret Tradition as Mormonism has to Christianity.

I've been a member of OBOD and I'm now a member of BDO!

My Great Grandfather was a Christian Druid in Wales, but I do wonder how much of that was a charitible organisation like the rotary and how much was real druidry.

I am now training to be a Buddhist and they love my Pagan background. They assume everyone is coming from a protestant background, which means a lot of their assumptions sound plain daft to me!

Glad you like my articles, I won't be putting anymore on H2G2 cause they tend to ruin them beyond all recognition. But I will be doing a lot of stuff on Paganism and Buddhism on my own web page, which I may even start one day!
