Whatever happened to the SRG?

Well, Saturday's Halloween meet was not what you might call an unqualified success. You probably haven't seen the log, so here it is:

We need to sort this out. We've been saying for ages that the meets aren't as good as they used to be, but nobody puts any effort into making them as good as they used to be. And it doesn't help that the SRG page is still asking people to come along to the Towel Day meet. smiley - erm

I propose a Christmas/New Year meet, on a date when as many of us as possible can attend, and arranged in sufficient time to allow people travelling from further afield to arrange transport and accommodation, rather than just making it up on the spur of the moment and providing excuses for people not to come.

Who's with me? smiley - ale

Whoops sorry EV. I've been otherwise distracted.

So I hear, you dirty boy. smiley - bigeyes

Don't take it personally, I think we're all guilty of taking the SRG for granted to some extent and assuming that meets will just fall into place.

To be totally honest with you I obviously haven't really enjoyed the last two I turned up at but that was for reasons with nothing to do with the majority of the group.

Things have fallen by the wayside in latter times and we need to do something. At my first SRG meet there was about 20 people there; nowadays we're lucky to get half a dozen.

I think a part of the problem is that people tend to head off early for trains and stuff. Fair enough, nobody is expected to book a hotel room for the night but folks disappearing off early puts a dampener on things. We've all done it so I'm not putting out the blame to anyone in particular!

I also think we should put a bit of variation into our meets. An afternoon activity may hold back the drunkeness for an hour or three, but I would love us to do more things like bowling, laserquest etc. Then we have more stuff to talk about whilst getting pished smiley - ok

I'm not really here

I do want to come (realise I'm not part of the SRG, but never mind), and I did think of asking you to change the date to the date of the London meet, cos I was free, but really can't face that one any more. They just aren't the same, and I'd rather keep my happy memories.

Before xmas I can't make one, due to birthday/xmas needing my money. Could you ask the Eds to promote you a bit more? All the meets seem to be getting smaller anyway.

Perhaps the way forward is more mini-meets, more often.

I noticed that there was a low turnout at the London meet, but I think that they aren't organised too well either. I just wish the date would be decided quicker so it gives people a better chance to arrange travel and accommodation, but that's another story..!

I do have an idea for a meet in the New Year, so later on when I've finished my letter to Edinburgh Council for giving me a parking ticket when my sister had a medical emergency I'll reveal all smiley - bigeyes
