antidisestablishmentarianism

I believe this word refers to the opposition to removing Anglicanism as the official or lawful state church of England, rather than to its dissolution. But I could be wrong since I take matters of religion as lightly as a bit of fleece, except when they are fleecing me.

That word crossed my mind also as I was reading the article. I grew up in the US midwest, as a child I was told it was the longest word in English. Nobody seemed to care much about what it meant. We're big on superlatives in the US, not so big on meaning. :-\

You're absolutely right U170889, disestablishment is the dissolution of the bond between church and state.

If we take the meaning of antidisestablishmentarianism as the opposition of the disallution of the church from state then, logicaly speaking, if you are for the dissalution of the church from state then you subscibe to the doctrine od antiantidisestablishmentarianism, which is a longer word.

If you are a person in favour of detatching the church from the state surely you are an antidisestablishmentarianismist
