A church and a bar on every corner...

Greetings from an ex-citizen of the Wyoming Valley! I'm glad you came to the defense of our odd little corner of PA. While I'll agree that the valley isn't the most exciting place to live, it has taken more than it's fair share of abuse. The "drunken remnants of miners" have managed to proliferate respected institutions of higher learning. Within a radius of 10-15 miles there are Wilkes University, Kings College, College Misercordia, Penn State Lehman campus, the University of Scranton, and countless junior and community colleges. The sad side is that most of the skills and expertise produced from this environment of learning leave the area because most graduates simply can't find jobs nearby. Again we are brought back to the image of the Wyoming Valley producing highly valuable commodities (education replaces coal)and reaping little of the benefits. This area has great potential which has been dormant for far too long. (Heina?)--Sorry, I couldn't resist.
