On 8th June we've had a second Labour landslide in the general election, but it wasn't half as interesting to watch as in 1997 when all the Tory party giants were felled. In fact, I fell asleep at about 0130.
What can it mean for democracy in this country when on 59% vote and only one in four vote for the party in power?
Would proportional representation be a fairer way of electing the government?
Why does William Hague bear such a striking resemblance to 'The Mekon' from Dan Dare?
Baldness . . . why is Patrick Stewart bald and sexy, yet William Hague isn't?
On Friday 9th four of us attended the recording of the 'Bremner, Bird and Fortune: Exit Poll' television programme at Capital Studios, Wandsworth. It was a good night out.
Do we take the rise out of our politicians too much or too little, I wonder?
Margaret Thatcher admitted to being a big fan of 'Yes Minister' - what does Tony Blair find funny I wonder?

Wasn't much of an election, unfortunately. Ordinarily I'd stay up for the whole thing but I flaked out at about 5:00AM.
Really it was a forgone conclusion from the moment Blair announced it. Still, there was always the hope that the fuel crisis and Foot and Mouth might have made it a bit more interesting.
Hair loss is always an amusing subject, I find. I don't think Hague was ever going to be as popular as Patrick Stewart or Sean Connery, for example. Problem is, Hague's lack of hair just made him look like an infant! The other two, however, just look like old men thanks to their baldness and we all know how some women like father figures! Horrible night for the Tories, all in all, but somewhat entertaining for those of us with a neutral stance.
Eventually got to see Bremner, Bird and Fortune. Obviously part of it, at least, was written before the full Election Night was over but it was none the less funny for the limited number of references to the events of the morning after.
What the hell was that from Mandy - the man's a nutter! Let us use that as proof that we need to take the proverbial from our politicians even more, otherwise they might all take themselves too seriously!

Flaked out at 0500 - I fell asleep at about 0200, then woke up to a ranting Peter Mandelson. He sounded like Davros, evil creator of the Daleks! (Mandos, evil creator of the Blaireks anyone?)
A weird night indeed. There's a song by Del Amitri called 'Nothing Ever Happens' which seems appropiate...
~/Nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all.
The needle returns to the start of the song and we all sing along like before.
And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow/~
But I have more faith in Mr. Blair than all that. Don't I?
