h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I hate mice. I have mice in my bedroom. I think they live in the skirting board. It's quite depressing, actually. I've not really enjoyed living in this house for the few months I've been here. I think I'll start looking for a new house. I hope I find one that's nicer than this one. The mice are sort of the last straw, really. It's a big, cold and impersonal shabby terrace house in one of Melbourne's northern inner suburbs. It feels like a boarding house, not a home. I used to have a home, a nice little flat not far from here, but I quit my job because it was driving me insane (book editor for Lonely Planet, as a matter of fact) and now I'm much poorer and living in shabby share-housing so that I can afford to start up a business as a freelance book editor, which will leave me enough time to write. Writing is what I want to do more than anything else. So it's a calculated sacrifice. Only right now I'm feeling the pinch and missing my warm little flat. Sigh.

I don't always whinge like this.

Maybe they're just trying to get the answer to Life, The Universe, and Everything. Perhaps it would be better to vacate now before your residence gets destroyed to make way for a hyperspatial bypass, or something. Just keep thinking Deep Thoughts
