i`ve not relly noticed the phenomenon, though perhaps i have. i drive trains and the last trip home, especially when i need to be somewhere else seems to take for ever when in reality it`s only about an hour. i will do more experimentation, i mean i will ask my friends on your behalf.

Thanks smiley - ok Bob for your comments about my pet theory concerning the 'return' journey. Sorry for not replying sooner but have been busy putting the finishing touches to my recent guide entry on the subject of 'Madness' (now in Peer Review).
It would appear your experiences on the train (did you say you were a driver? smiley - run) do not lend weight to my observations. I was assuming, of course, that the return leg wouldn't be as fraught as the outer one, simply on the grounds that you are 'going home'- usually on a pre-determined and familiar journey and therefore more relaxing (smiley - sleepy). I expect working on the trains means that this isn't always the case and that you're route back home will vary enormously. Also, the effect of doing shiftwork is bound to be a great variable in my hypothesis.
Yes, it will be interesting to hear what your friends have to say. Good luck with the experiment.
All the best
Zaphod smiley - cdouble
