Since I'm too lazy anymore to actually read books, I broke down today and bought the audio book of Starship Titanic, read by Terry Jones. I've only listened to the first side so far but it's hilarious. Jones is great. =) And I've already played the computer game.

how did you like the game? i should have mine in a few days, and i cant wait! i've read the book twice so far, and i really liked it. i do have to admit that if you were looking for a book written in adams' style, one might be dissappointed (the book got panned on beyond.com, but the game got rave reviews)but i enjoyed it (i also love monty python, so maybe that's why)so hey, goosnargh!!!

The audio rendition was Adamsish enough for my taste, though I could tell where Terry Jones had more emphasis. The character interaction was very unlike Adams. Especially in the romantic triangle territory. Perhaps Adams wrote some sex scenes into his Dirk Gently series. I never read those so I don't know. However, the sex scenes between Lucy and the alien seemed particularly Terry Jonesish to me. Not DNA at all.

I enjoyed the cdrom game Starship Titanic to a degree. Sounds like you haven't played it yet so I don't want to give it away. It's just... if you've ever played MYST or RIVEN you might know what I mean. These adventure puzzle games seem very isolating. Makes me want to go down to the bar and strike up a conversation with a complete stranger.

You're inside this gigantic ship, and there's the occasional robot to annoy you when you try to converse with it. Other than that you are wholly and remarkably alone. The actual novel is more alive, because there's four real live fictional human beings running around. In the game it's just you and the occasional parrot, robot, dead thing, clue, macadamia nuts... I don't know.

...

It looks good.

The art and animation are top notch. And the music is beautiful. I like how the music changes subtly depending on what level of the ship you're on, but it's basically the same tune, only it's the quality of instruments that changes. Very subtle and very effective.

There's an adorable bit with John Cleese in it. I can't describe it. It'll give it away. You'll know it when you hear it and see it. Very cool. Perhaps the best part of the game in my opinion.

I Know the bit your talking about but it says in the end credits that it's someone else, not John Clevees!
