Before you start jumping up and down - It's on hourly rate at the moment, and I had an interview for the contract yesterday. I did NOT do well on the tech section - although in everything else I was able to give them what they wanted. I'm keeping realistic about this until (IF) I get a contract.

It's still a good start. You're not unemployed and you should be making some worthwhile contacts (both inside and outside the establishment since the equipment will come from somewhere). Contracts in education are sometimes tricky things anyway because there often isn't enough guaranteed money and it is "safer" to keep some people disposable. One friend of mine has his contract (along with a lot of others in the department) but they know full well that the money isn't actually there at the moment.

This is for a permenant contract, aas opposed to a timed one like most of the rest of the dept, but even so - my manager has just been made redundant after 11 years good and failthful service, as have numerous others - so I know how transient these things can be. Weird places colleges...

A friend of mine was searching for me online today (out of curiosity I think) and he came across H2g2 and reminded me of it.

Things aren't going too badly at the moment thanks. I'm going to post a new journal entry tonight I think. How's things going with you?

There've been the usual sorts of problems on and off. At the moment I only have an intermittent internet connection (I think an engineer sabotaged it while adding someone else to the network). Which is annoying when I suddenly want to look up something and remember that it's only on the internet.
