I'm glad you are both okay. What a frightening experience.

Many years ago I was woken up in the middle of the night to find my apartment in flames! I had been storing some boxes of my sister's stuff on my first floor (wooden) balcony and it was suspected that someone seeing cardboard boxes piled there had decided to set them alight.

I am always soooooooo careful about discarding cig butts - normally they stay outside on the (brick and metal) balcony until the next day, when they are sure to have gone totally cold.

So much can go wrong just because of some stupidity..

I'm very glad you are both fine! Gosh, how scary!

Gosh- hope you're both not too shaken. I could have started a fire on friday- luckily when I walked into the bathroom I didn't turn the light on- a leak in the flat upstairs meant the bathroom light was dripping water!
