I agree, sounds a bit like WWF editor. As someone who has to pay attention to English usage and who has no connection with wrestling, I am duly ashamed. I'll change my introduction once I can think of something original that people might find interesting.

I edit lots of different kinds of books, mostly non-fiction: guides to health and alternative medicine, New Age, children's books, general reference and dictionaries. Proof-reading a dictionary is a real blast and no mistake. I also sub for a Sunday newspaper.

Nice to know that people still do proof read. I used to work at a printers, and spent many hours copy-holding for a reader, and reading when he was on holiday. Some places now seem to rely far too heavily on spellchecking programs...

No, i'm not going to start banging on about apostrophes!

If you go to Dave Gorman's website there is a link to the "The Gallery of Misused Quotation Marks" site. (Is it ok to give the address?)

It's somewhat worrying that someone was so moved to dedicate a website to the errant quote mark, but I kind of approve in my pedantic way.

Dave's site has lots of other great links, saving those of us with real jobs the trouble of trauling the net for weirdnesssmiley - smiley.

Thanks for recommending Dave Gorman's site. I'm still checking out some of the links, I like the fake TV listings one. Some are a bit too "weird" (!) and rather worrying. Some people have far too much time on their hands.
So, Willow, is that your favourite tree, or are you a bit of a Buffy fan?
smiley - ok
p.s. Should that have been "trawling"?...

er .. yes it should. *hangs head in shame*smiley - sadface

Willow is the tree associated with Taurus. This was told to me by a white witch friend of mine (another story). Don't hold with it myself but I think it's a nice name. And I do like Buffy - escapist nonsense about vampires is cool.
