Movie worries

Having just read one of the tributes on the DNA website, a curious thought struck me. The entry said that the author could'nt wait for the hitch hikers movie to come out.

I agree whole heartedly with this, (as most would), but I'm curious to know who is overseeing the project now. I remember reading that it had been put on hold due to disagreements over the script. I did read one of the proposed scripts (well bits of it), wrote by the bloke who did chain reaction, and it was generally trashed by everyone who read it.

I know that DNA did do his own draft, which will obviously be the definative version, but I can't help worrying that disney will make the film with a more commercial slant than is necessary, if they make it at all.

I realise that lately the movie industry has made more of an effort to stay true to original plots, characters etc. but what about films like "gladiator". I have a friend who teaches history, and he reckons he can point out ten or so inaccuracies in almost every scene. Whether or not thats true I could'nt say, but on the other hand look at the fairly recent film about code-breakers. I think its called "U 571" but I could be wrong. Anyway its a SEMI true story about how a secret german code was broken in world war 2. In the film the Americans break it (of course the film was made by an American company), but in (well documented) reality it was the British.

I just don't want to see hitch hikers turned into some kind of poor interpretation of itself, with the only semblance of the original book, being the title. I don't even begin to claim to know anything about the movie business, but I do know that the DNA script is the only way to go.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
