Hi Guys, Just busy. Wednesday - our first wedding anniversary, went out for a meal in St Peter Port (Guernsey). You leave on Condor fast cat early pm and return by midnight. Lumpy trip over so got in an hour late -shops closed peeing with rain. We got wet, but the meal was really excellent - smoother coming back, but not home till 1:30 am.
Thursday - Finish the base for the greenhouse and O&S.
Friday - Work and fix the greenhouse to base.
Allotment - well this rain has been a mixed blessing - no watering, but some things have suffered. Toms will not ripen well and the taste will not be so good. Beans are not being pollenated well. Spuds are blighted and some will rot before lifting. Strawberries have not ripened.
Flowers lovely, marrows and pumpkins etc doing nicely.

It gets worse - just got back and everyones toms have got blight and rotted. Our spuds are OK, but I didn't put in a big crop. French beans are OK and Sweet Peas, well fantastic. We also have a super Cardoon in flower. Sunflowers have been flattened. We are in for another deluge tonight.

Do you know I don't think I have time to do anything any more. Sometimes I sit and think, now I will just sit.
Allotment, well the French beans are now doing well and salad leaves are fine. We are clearing the rubbish out of the failed crops. The runner beans have picked up even though a good few have not set. The rain went on for so long rhey weren't pollenated and then the flowers dropped - no bean. Compost is doing well and the second early spuds are good. Rocket is a good variety - they don't mind being left in the ground as second earlies and you can cook them any way you choose, even roasting.
American Museum is worth a visit. Look on their webb site first to ensure they are open and it is best to go when there is an event on.

I grew a pumpkin seed for my grandson, who planted it in his garden, and now my daughter fears for her life when she goes to bed because she swears it is big enough to get in the bedroom window!
We are nuturing 2 huge and 3 smaller pumpkins at the moment, all else is cut away so that the plant can concentrate!
He's also got runner beans he's having every day for dinner (one plant, grown at school and brought home and put in the garden), a tub of potatoes nearly ready for harvesting and two tomato plants, one of which is busily growing a square tomato for him! And he's only five!
Oh yes, and I forgot to mention the sunflowers which are both over 8 foot tall!
His gardening is a hundred times better than mine!
Hope you are both OK

UG, how lovely to hear from you.
The allotment is doing a bit better. We have pumpkins, marrows and cucumbers coming on - small at the moment, but ours are nomadic breeds and galloping all over the place. French beans are fantastic again and he runners have decided to come in - all at the same time!!!!
Sweet corn coming on and we will have leeks and celery later. Toms were washed out completely. The onions were poorish.

Hi Pinky! Hi GA!
Pinky, are you sure you haven't planted a Tumbling Tom, or a Tom Thumb by mistake! Yours sound like cherry tomatoes! Mine? Well they grew well, and then I noticed a brown patch on one of the stems, about 2 inches long. Then on another plant, and then on another.
My Mum told me to "whip them all out and burn them" but I didn't have the heart - but she was right......... all the tomatoes, big though they are, are blighted and inedible.
GA - my runner beans have done well too, despite the slugs! I only have six plants, on a wigwam, but that's plenty for me.
Despite my lack of tomatoes, I have been given plenty and have made quite a lot of chutney.
I am now in charge of grandson's pumpkin patch et al whilst they are on holiday, so I had better not let him down!
