In response to Stu/Aaron on war: I believe that most if not all wars are waged by indivdual leaders that can be boiled down to being "king of the hill" the strongest kid on the playground. Sure greed,Ideology,
hatred, ethnic cleansing and a whole gambit of other reasons can be blamed for war but the real reason I believe is the human males need to be the alpha male, the leader of the tribe, the leader. The ultimate BMOC. Aaron I believe on a individual basis you are correct that the individual soldier fights out of comradership. For his friends life and his on the battlefield.
Stu your question on why certian people die: I have asked the same and I always get the same answer "Gods will" it is all part of his plan and we can may not understand it but it is all part of gods ultimate plan. And I have no better answer either when a 5 yaer old dies of cancer or a baby dies at birth other than us exsperiencing grief. {back to nieztsche "What does not kill us makes us stronger"}
Aaron you ask "so why is it that some things are circular.. if the learning curve is so small why bother?
I don't think that the learning curve is small at all.. This is where that saying comes true "If we do not learn from history than we are doomed to repeat it" I quess some things just have to be beat in our heads before we learn them.
What is the Devine plan? God only Knows.

Religion is based on faith and belief, if god was proven to exist, there would be no faith ( this is in Hitchhikers somewhere, all I can remember is God disapears in a puff of logic) but would there be religion, and would some nutcases still not believe, Im not really asking or saying anything here, just typing out thoughts as they come to me. The men in white coats will be along shortly, with one of those special white jackets for me, with the really long sleeves that they can tie up out the way behind my back.
The fighting thing yeah you fight for your mates and your gang and regiment etc. but when the smelly stuff hits the fan and your one on one you fight for yourself, for survival and all thoughts of why your fighting go out the window. You just get down and nasty and do anything to win and live, and after the exhiliration of winning (or surviving ) has gone, you remember how you turned into something less than human, something primitive and you can either live with it and use it to focus on the next time or you become frightened of yourself and what you can do.
I think what I'm trying to say is there's degrees of warfare some people are suited for one but not another, the Air Force bomb and stay pretty much out of the fray fighting from a distance, Infantry tend to get in the thick of it.

Just a couple of quick comments
Post #209 Why does it have to be onions? Why can't we have layers like a parfait? (sorry a little Shrekness)
As far as God's plan I have a few comments. Personally I think if we actually new what God's plan for us was we would do our best to mess it up. We are unary like that.
Secondly as far as death is concerned a good friend of mine once told me "We are all immortal until the father calls us home" That has actually helped me do things I thought I would never be able to do.
In the thick of battle it goes from thinking of ones friends to not thinking just doing. Cus if you take the time to think about what you are doing then you are going to be thinking about it as you lie on the ground dying. Or at least Thais what I was always taught. In Airborne school they drill things into your head over and over and over so you don't think about what you are doing it is just natural. I remember reading in the book "About Face" that a jumpmaster (wearing a airforce shoot when he was in the door) fell out of the plane. His main did not open like it was supposed to and when they found him on the ground latter they saw that he had actually tore through his field jacket right wear the handle for a Army reserve would have been.
wow catching up on all this backlog is taken a while

Tacsatduck asks: Why onion not parfait?
Starbirth asks in return: Have you ever heard of liver and parfait?

That phrase is well worth remembering Tac, thanks for that.
Being conditioned to do tasks automatically is all very well and necessary, but it doesn't mean you can't look back at why and how you felt and reacted.

Your saying "We are all imortal until god takes us home" strikes me as fatelist. Do you believe our fate is preordained?

As the saying goes Starbirth the only certain thing in life is death.
It's what you do in between birth and death that counts, even if (big if) there's no afterlife, I'd like to think the things i've done have made other people's lives happier.
Aarons domino principle in action, do something or say something nice for someone else and it (hopefully) passes down the chain.

I try to live by a similar creed call it pay forward, random acts of kindness or good karma. What ever you call it, life is hard enough for all of us why make it worse by being nasty to each other.
Back to the soul however I like many others have to believe that it does exsist. Any person who is semi-concious release that without the exsistence of a soul {In which our present life is just a stepping stone, a lesson} our individual live's not only lack meaning but are also over in the blink of an eye.

Yeah I kind of like the idea of Karma, it goes along with how I think religion and the soul work, you know kindness to others and helping those less fortunate, thing is people tend to treat you like a sucker sometimes. Also I hope i'm making ammends for things that I know I've done that are wrong.
With this Soul chat (it's not really a debate, we seem to agree on most things ) Do any of you believe in Astral Projection, where apparantly the soul is released to roam around at your will whilst you're alive?

Not yet back home gone mad and bought a PC I can't afford, living in a rented flat, and feeling dead lonely and resentful.
To keep in line with the Blame thread I blame my stepdaughter (which she likes to remind me of even though it hurts to speak of her as such)for the break up of my marriage, due to the constant arguments over my daughter's lies and attitude.
This may seem weird and rather personal but my wife won't talk it out so a good thrash out of this would be theraputic for me.
