You're lucky I'm doing contract at the moment, so I think I have an idea.
There is only one contract. The terms include the price and the goods (these are the detriment/consideration).
The advertised price is not binding. This is merely an "invitation to treat" - the offer is made by the purchaser. this may explain the change thing... if you don't mention what price you're offering, it can be implied that you meant the whole amount you handed over...
The acceptance comes when it is rung up at the till.
Transfer of ownership is included in the terms of the one contract - in fact, they are the central conditions of the contract...
Is this enough detail, or do you want a longer, technical answer..?
I imagine this is the same as British law, since we started out there...
