h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Welcome to the Guide!

As time goes by I'm sure you'll find a niche to your liking - this is a rather diverse community. If you're interested in meeting folks right away for a chat, do check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/Talk

Hopefully, you'll be able to contribute some entries about your local area or hobbies and interests. It's always a good idea to check out the writing guidelines before you start (http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A53209).

One way to get started writing for the Guide is to check out the front page which has a link to this week's 'Contributing to the Guide' entry. For example this week's topic is 'Potato Recipes'. The idea behind these entries is to get a whole bunch of h2g2 Researchers to work together to contribute bits of knowledge to form a larger entry.

Hi Jimi,

Thanks for the greeting. I realised as soon as I had posted that I had broken a house rule within seconds by talking about my job on a website. Oops. Sorry. Won't do it again!

It's going to take some time looking round so I'll keep (relatively) quiet until I've got a couple more clues as to what's what. I've been writing for 9000 years (and that's only in this life) so I had a look at the wannabe writer's article first...and it's just as valid for published writers too. Just because you've had a few hits doesn't mean you don't get the rejection slips too! I've got five unpublished books on the computer at the moment...

I'm afraid I've only been paid for writing for the past decade. (9,000 years - WOW!)

I first came to h2g2 in August 1999 because at my current I write a lot of boring press releases (it's enough to make you !) and this site provided me a place to blow off some creative steam.
