The Rule of Law
Grizz Started conversation May 6, 1999
It has been said, many and oft by ones far wiser in the way of the world
than I, that the rule of law must be maintained if civilized society is
to remain upon the face of Mother/Father/Uncle Earth. The argument goes,
following the line of reasoning begun (perhaps) by Hobbes, that man is
by his (used for ease of writing, not out of anti-her virulence) very
nature, lacking entirely in self control and tact. In order to govern
the interaction between people(s), a solid law, the enfringement of
which is in some way punishable, is needed. If there is no such law,
the argument continues, society would collapse. I disagree. I am a
firm believer in the utter mediocity of mankind, and believe that we
(i.e., whoever is not clever enough to ignore my words) should rise up
against the law, and overthrow it! Or at least let me out of the drunk
tank. Please? My family misses me, and I promised I'd give her a call!
Its my aunt's birthday! She'll kill me! Please? For me?
