I'm not really subbing anymore. Would like to but I've got too much on my plate and can't settle in any one place. I'm like a hyperactive flying insect at a picnic. Can't light at any one place for long.
Someone might swat me.
Actually to be honest, one thing that puts me off this place nowadays is something they may not be able to do anything about. No matter where I am or what I'm accessing the 'Net through, how fast my connection is, it takes for freaking EVER to download anything from h2g2.com. It's literally like watching the goo slowly ooze onto my screen every time I want to look at a page.
I wish they could have a streamlined version of h2g2.com which was more text based. As much as I have always loved the goo, it downloads for me EVERY PAGE. I wish I could circumvent that. Might make it a bit easier, but then I'd still be downloading the banner ads. There may not be a solution to that one, I dunno. But if we could each somehow personalize the way h2g2.com downloads? Gee I dunno. Maybe if you'd rather your page be green and your text be red. Like there could be some place to manually decide that. Other websites do that. The more user friendly you could make the site and the more personalized you could make it I think the more people would like it.
*shrug* but then I'm just an armchair quarterback. I can't code or nuthin. =) It may not be possible.

Or it may be and they're already working on it!!
Those guys and gals in the Towers are brighter than I think a lot of us give them credit.

I haven't tried it with the piccies turned off - Maybe this will help a bit. The site is speeding up a bit now except when there are a lot of newbeis floating around - The Tech boys say it needs 100,000 visitors now to blcok up the system and cause the CPU to break down.

They weren't expecting the popularity of h2g2.com to ramp up like it has. Not that they're complaining. I don't want to see the graphics go away completely. It should still be how newcomers experience the site. But oldtimers like me who like to post a lot when we find time, well we could post more and faster if there was less busy stuff happening in the margins. After someone signed up and was in h2g2.com for awhile, the option could pop up in the user edit functions.
Also, does the goo show up when you're using a palm pilot or whatever those handheld things are called? I don't think so but I've never tested it myself, not having one of those doodads.
I just realized that all the graphics I've personally contributed to h2g2.com are gone now. I had them at my wordjazz.net site but since I'm not renewing that space financially, the files are no longer accessible. Eventually I'll need to go through all my pages and delete the references to the graphics, or move them all somewhere else. I may just delete them. If I had a guaranteed lifelong place on the Web where my stuff would always be, I'd just change the links, but I'm too nomadic and transient for that, at least online.
