Yes! That book has been a huge part of my life. Wonder why KW didn't buy back the hare when it last went on sale. If you've been to the bunnyyears website it has a lot about masquerade but I recall an item on (I think) Nationwide wherein there was a Masquerade musical; Kit apparently put extra clues under lucky seats in the auditorium. Can't find anything about that.
Artistically I have often thought of starting up a contemporary Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood to get some craftsmanship back in Art...wonder what KW's up to at the moment - the Portal Gallery website doesn't change much!

Yes indeed, For over twenty five + years it has intriqued me, did the riddle of masquerade ever get properly solved, or did the shear volume of interest cause Kit Williams to call 'time' on the solution.
A child of ten or oxford don were supposed candidates for solving the riddle, the offered solution seemed complicated for a youngster.
Were there two or more solutions - what about the solution offered 'By using your eyes'
So here then is the cleaner, simpler solution:
Picture Page 3 'The Hare' in its head between the eyes 'I O W' also known as treasure island, the hare sits on what looks like the Isle of wight & the two seeming eyes on the cliffs are look out posts on the OS map.
Picture Page 4 The numbers on the ladies hand the only ones that read correct upside down is the OS map number for the IOW 196
Picture Page 5 Written in a hedge 'Comp'
Picture Page 6 (The Double Page) written on the mouse's fore paw 'ton'
Picture Page 7 Written on the shrew 'Chine'
Picture Page 13 The fish, similar to the colour blind tests where you see a number, well this one shows 'SOS'
So OS map 196, Isle of Wight, Compton Chine, SOS - there were two 'Breachers Buoy' posts at Compton Chine just above the cliffs.
The 12.00 shadow on the correct day marked the spot.
We tried many times to get the spot but weather failed us, the few times we have passed by since, the posts have now been cut down, I smile & wonder.
Simple solution by using your eyes, perhaps we 'Masqueraders' will never know.
Key: Complain about this post
