Flowers of the Burren?

Hi, Rogue Researcher!

I notice that you're sub-editing my entry on the Flowers of the Burren. smiley - erm I'm curious - was there some problem with all the links, or will you be putting them back in? I'm sorry if I've bothered you while you're still working on it, but last time I was debating about contacting the sub-editor, the entry appeared on the Front Page while I was making up my mind - including exactly the mistake I intended to raise with the sub-editor.

So, my sincere apologies if you've only started work on this one, but I put a lot of time in finding suitable links and I'd be sorry if there was some policy reason why they had to be left out.

I was under the impression that links to external images weren't allowed, and I've just recently contacted the inhouse staff about it.
I'm afraid I was right, lol.
I'll put in a link to the site with the images, but direct linking to images isn't allowed. Sorry smiley - smiley

???????????????????????

Could you check again?
I understood that INCLUDING external images was not allowed, but that linking to external sites was!

Please take a look at the Hellebore entry which appeared on the Front Page today:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A649208

You will see that Wilfrid included exactly the same kind of links that I did. If it was ok today, surely it's ok for my entry as well??

Hmm.... I think I'd better drop Ashley a line myself and check again. It seems very inconsistent if it's allowed in one entry and not in another! I'll direct Ashley to this conversation and to my original entry which had the links.

Bye till tomorrow!

Aha - some clarification needed here, I think. I probably didn't make myself absolutely clear...

In Edited Guide Entries, you may make a link to another Internet page of the form link text, which can link to an HTML page, an image, a movie - anything you like (as long as it doesn't break the House Rules in some way). As long as clicking on that link takes you to that non-BBC page (on which there may or may not be images), that's fine.

What is *not* possible is to embed pictures held on other servers (i.e. not on the BBC's servers) onto h2g2 Entry pages. Therefore, you can't use the standard HTML tag in the page to use an image from someone else's servers. It shouldn't actually be possible to do this anyway - I think Jim disabled it - so my comment was probably a little confusing - sorry.

Ashley's restored those links, so everything should be fine now. smiley - smiley

Thanks, Chris and Ashley!

And of course thanks to you, too, Rogue Researcher - I do appreciate what a great job sub-editors do!
