I have, today, been trying to write a piece of music. I wrote a bass line and various other bits and pieces, converted them to midi in one piece of software and then opened them up in my main Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software.
I then added various loops and rhythm guitar bits and did a drummy bit in there too. However as I was composing and arranging I was turning off various tracks so that I could hear how stuff like the drums and rhythm fitted and stuff.
Then I unmuted and played all the tracks and you could hear two completely different songs going on. The one I started off with, most of which was worked out down stairs on my keyboard, but which lacked various bits of rhythm and melody, and the one I'd been creating using solely my computer, which was missing only a bass line.
So the song I started off writing has gone temporarily by the way side and I'm now working on the one that effectively grew out of it.

I gave to have a tune before I can write lyrics. I find it very hard to write a tune to fit already written lyrics
