Perhaps you should know that 'less' used in this fashion is synonymous wwith minus.

pheloxi, allow me to know how my own language is used please. If we were discussing your language then I would quite happily agree. However, as I doubt you have been through 18 yrs of maths education exclusivly using the english language I think on this occaison I know more. In fact i was trying to help by letting you see where a misunderstanding could occur between what you mean and what you say.
Of course, if you had said '1 less *than* 7' then i would also agree with you. But you didn't. 'x less n' is a specific construct.

However, if you don't want my help then fine.
